Vine Street Work

A section of road in the City of Hazleton has been closed to traffic
lately and News 13 has been receiving phone calls from residents wanting
to know what the problem is and when the street would re-open…
This is the area shut down and filled with constriction vehicles and
workers…
Its a project being Greater Hazleton Jointed Sewer Authority that
started in May of 2011 and is slowly but surely coming to end…
Over 4 thousand feet of pipe was laid from 3rd street in west Hazleton
to Vine and Maple Streets in the City…
News 13 talked to the Greater Hazleton Joint Sewer Authority’s Director
of Operations Chris Carsia who said that the street should be open by
Wednesday night as long as everything goes as planned…
According to Carsia there were a lot of variables in this project…
With other utilities that run under ground and the weather…
In the end, the project is expected to cost 1.5 million dollars but it
is something that had to be done…
The order came down from Department of Environmental Protection…
This new line will be safer…with the the old line last replaced in
the late 1960’s…over 40 years ago
Once the actual work is complete, the sidewalk repair and paving will
follow, with most of that work happening once spring hits…
