Six More Weeks of Winter?

The eyes of the nation were on Punxsutawney Pennsylvania as the most
popular groundhog emerged from his burrow just before sunrise Thursday
morning. Did Phil see his shadow? Or will we have six more weeks of
winter. Punxsutawney Phil did see his shadow predicting six more weeks
of winter. The legendary weather prognosticating rodent groundhog made
his “prediction” on Gobbler’s Knob, not far from Pittsburgh. A crowd of
18 thousand Phil Fans gathered to witness the furry creatures
prediction. Even Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett was among the spectators
this year. So far, Phil has seen his shadow 100 times and has not seen
it just 16 times. The celebration of Groundhog Day started with
Pennsylvania’s earliest settlers in the 1800s. The first official
weather prediction at the Gobbler’s Knob was made by Phil on Feb. 2, 1887.
