McAdoo Catholic Closing

McAdoo Catholic

McAdoo Catholic Elementary school will be closing it’s doors for good at the end of the year.  Concerned parents called News 13 Monday to let us know that McAdoo Catholic sent a letter home with students saying that the school will not be opening for the 2013-2014 school year, due to lack of funding and low student enrollment. All this despite an enthusiastic community fund drive to try and raise the money needed that would guarantee the school’s future. That drive did raise over 100-thousand of the one hundred and thirty thousand dollars needed for the schools budget this year. However, that wasn’t enough. McAdoo Catholic is part of the Catholic diocese of Allentown. Around 15, teachers and faculty will lose their jobs because of the school’s closing. This year, 91 students are enrolled at the school.

  1. After all the hard wirk work put into raising the more than $100,000.00 I find it awful that the Catholic church cannot…. No WILL NOT fund the last $30,000.00 AND I wonder what happens to that )100,000.00 they raised. Shame on them!

What is wrong with the Catholic Church…they have enough art and jewels in the vatican to fund schools for ever…I went to McAdoo Catholic (it was St. Patricks back then)and I am just ashamed that this great school could not be saved…

“Under terms of Mr. Mesch’s will, six elementary schools in the Diocese of Allentown: McAdoo Catholic, McAdoo; Assumption BVM, Pottsville; St. Ambrose, Schuylkill Haven; Trinity Academy, Shenandoah; St. Jerome, Tamaqua; and Our Lady of the Angels Academy, Lansford will each receive more than $100,000 as will St. Joseph Center for Special Learning, Pottsville.” … announced in January. Somebody needs to answer a question!

Unfortunate the Diocese probably won’t reconsider and just as unfortunate, that the whole town and all the past students couldn’t raise the money.
