West Hazleton-Folks in the Hazleton area are coming together to help bring relief to victims of the recent Hurricane in New Jersey. Susan Sernak-Martinelli of Weatherly and her husband Frank Martinelli have begun to coordinate a relief drive for victims of Super Storm Sandy and now they’re looking for help from their community.
“My husband and I, and my family, Sernak Farm and Stephanie’s Greens and Things. We’ve organized a Hurricane Sandy relief drive to help the victims in New Jersey,” said Susan Sernak-Martinelli.
The husband and wife duo started the drive because they feel the people who were affected in New Jersey shouldn’t be left without help. So far the couple said they have received great response from generous community members and local businesses around the area
Susan said the Hazleton area is definitly lending a helping hand. The relief efforts have become recovery efforts and New Jersians are now looking for non-perishable food items.
Below is a list of items which are needed most:
– Canned Goods
– Non-perisable food (ex. Ceral, pretzels, crackers)
– Bottled Water
On Wednesday, Frank Martinelli picked up a trunk full of donated canned goods from a nearby Aldi’s. His wife and her sister, Stephanie said the donations are a blessing to the people in need. There are plenty of drop off areas for people looking to help and Susan has even offered to come pick up goods from homes and other locations if people cannot reach one of the dropp off locations. The group hopes to have all donated items by November 11th so they will be able to deliver them in the next week.
You can drop off items at the following locations:
1. Stephanie’s Greens N’ Things – 6 North Broad Street, West Hazleton, PA (9 am- 5 pm)
2. Sernak Farms – RD1, Quakake Road, Weatherly, PA (8 am- 5 pm)
3. Eagle One Auto Sales, 804 South Church Street, Hazleton, Pennsylvania
All items need to be at one of the locations no later than Sunday, November 11, 2012.
