Hazleton Drug Bust
Seven people are in Luzerne County Prison tonight after a heroin ring raid early Thursday. Cash, checks, drug paraphernalia, multiple Welfare Access cards and 22 thousand dollars worth of heroin were all confiscated at the height of a five month heroin investigation in the Hazleton area. On Thursday, city police arrested 7 people, some suspected to be members of a drug ring. They all were selling a popular form of heroin, called ice-cream, after its’ familiar ice cream cone stamp. Chief Frank DeAndrea says, two of the people arrested yesterday were caught using heroin in an abandoned building. All seven suspected criminals sat before Judge Zola at their arraignment at City Hall Thursday night. Most of the defendants have children under 3 years old. None of the defendants were able to post bail. They are all in the Luzerne County prison tonight awaiting their hearings.
