Hazardous Weather Statement (NWS)

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR CENTRAL NEW
YORK…SOUTHEASTERN NEW YORK AND NORTHEAST PENNSYLVANIA.

.DAY ONE…TODAY AND TONIGHT.

ISOLATED TO SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE PRIMARILY THIS
AFTERNOON. A FEW OF THESE STORMS COULD APPROACH SEVERE LIMITS
WITH ISOLATED STRONG, GUSTY WINDS OR HAIL.

UNSEASONABLY WARM WEATHER IS ALSO EXPECTED TODAY. THE COMBINATION
OF TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 80S TO NEAR 90 AND MODERATELY HIGH
RELATIVE HUMIDITY WILL BRING THE HEAT INDEX TO NEAR 90 IN MANY
AREAS…WITH LOWER TO MID 90S POSSIBLE IN URBANIZED AREAS. NOW
MIGHT BE A GOOD TIME TO THINK ABOUT PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES, SUCH
AS INSTALLING AC UNITS FOR THE SUMMER. ALSO, ANYONE INVOLVED
IN OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES SHOULD BE SURE TO DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…TUESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY.

ON TUESDAY A COLD FRONT WILL CROSS THE AREA DURING THE AFTERNOON
AND EVENING HOURS. THIS SYSTEM WILL PRODUCE WIDESPREAD SHOWERS
AND THUNDERSTORMS, SOME OF WHICH COULD PRODUCE STRONG DAMAGING
WINDS AND LARGE HAIL.
