Drive-By Shooting
It happened in broad daylight and has residents of Hazleton scared.
Someone fired a gun at a City home from a speeding car around 1:00
Thursday afternoon. It happened in the same block as a school.***
*City Police, Troopers and a crowd of people, most residents of Locust
Street near 11th Street, where the gunfire startled many today. We’re
told this wasn’t the first time shots have been fired in the area in
recent weeks and neighbors say there was even a big fight back in July.
Neighbors said it was about 5 to 6 shots fired today and we found police
investigating what they believed were bullet holes in a home.
We also know witnesses told police they saw a dark grey or black car
fleeing the area very fast.**
Its not known if anyone was inside the home that was hit with gunfire or
exactly how many bullets holes were found.
Dial 9-1-1 if you know anything about this shooting in Hazleton.
Um, your report fails to mention the guy who was shot 5 times a few weeks ago on the same corner? That’s odd, no?
How bout the guy that was found beat to almost dead in the street two days ago he died

I just don’t understand the “we’re told this wasn’t the first time shots have been fired in the area in recent weeks…” You were “told” ??? You ran the story on Aug 4th when a guy was shot 5 times on the very same corner!

I think, that many of us, knew this was coming, but it was a matter of when. Now it’s here, and what are people to do? You have to be afraid, to even talk a walk, or drive down certain streets.
Okay, News 13…DID this air on 4 August? You have a real community problem with an extremely high level of gang activity….get your stories straight and accurate…your public depends on you for the facts for their own safety, which today would seem to be more and more in their own hands…and your public needs the facts to ‘make that call’ for the National Guard when this really spills over…or…has it? Sadly for all of us to watch/live with it, Hazleton is in deep trouble.

It has spilled over. We do need the national guard. The police are out numbered, and they need help big time. Your right we have to protect ourselves right now. I hate to say it’s but in my opinion the circumstances are dire enough to justify Marshall law.

I know it’s a pipe dream but that just puts it into perspective for some of you who moved away and don’t understand the gravity of what we are dealing with here.
I’m pretty sure it was a certain church leader ,mayor and social service worker who started all this. I wonder if ant of them reside here anymore?
I’ve heard Quigley? (sp?)…I still own property up home, gone for college and employment a long time back, but my Dad always kept me up on what was going on…born there and you do not forget your first home where you grew up…okay, who knows how to make the case, build the facts, and get in the National Guard…DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT…can Lou offer insight on this?
Good idea. I’m calling his office tomorrow. Worth a try. We need more voices willing to step up though.
We saw this report twice last weekend…there are other cities going broke…there are good hard facts and useful info in it, w/a lot over many of our heads, but we have to eat the proverbial elephant in the room/out on Broad Street just one bite at a time…here’s info that the report will be on again…sadly, Harrisburg is one of those cities…God bless everyone and please stay situationally aware, safe and alert!

The law enforcement, and especially the Mayor of Hazleton and its Legal Council, along with your state and federal representatives/senators, need to make it very clear to the people of Hazleton just HOW TO take a stand against what is happening in Hazleton. Train your responsible citizens in how to combat crime…you cannot appeal alone to what amounts to ‘sham involvement’, without FIRST a very specific legal guidance combined with police training of the innocent and vulnerable citizens…any other call to getting involved is, sadly, ineffectually, mute and sham…you must give people solid facts, tools, and unite as a civil but determined community to turn Hazleton around.
