Corbett Plans Privatize Liquor System
Governor Corbet Made it clear, he’s planning to privatize Pennsylvania’s State Store system. The beer store may soon be your one stop shop for not only beer but also wine and liquor. On Wednesday afternoon Governor Tom Corbett spoke on his proposed plan to privatize Pennsylvania’s liqour system. This plan would make it possible for grocery stores, drug stores, beer distributors and many more to obtain retail licenses to sell wine and beer. Local beer stores believe that obtaining a wine and liqour license would help their expand business. This plan however may not be good for all businesses. Governor Corbett’s plan involves shutting down more than 600 state owned wine and liqour stores before auctioning off private retail licenses. It is expected to generate 1 billion dollars over the next couple years. The money would be use to create a Passport for Learning Block grant to distribute to public schools.
