Congressman Cartwright Sworn-in
The 113th Congress of the United States is now in session. Its members were officially sworn-in just an hour ago, on the floor of the House of Representatives. Taking part in the ceremony is newly elected first term Congressman Matt Cartwright. He’ll represent the newly configured 17th Congressional District, representing all of Schuylkill County, along with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area, as well as parts of Carbon, Monroe and Northampton Counties. The new Democratic Representative is a well-known attorney from the Scranton area and is the third Congressman for the region, that at one time was represented by only two. Redistricting shuffled the shape of local congressional districts, and created Cartwright’s District, which absorbed a portion of the District which had been represented by Congressman Lou Barletta.
